Hysterosalpingography (HSG)
Preparation:
■ The hysterosalpingography procedure is best performed on the 8-12th day of menstrual cycle or before ovulation to make certain that you are not pregnant during the exam.
■ Prior to the procedure complimentary Transvaginal Color Doppler Ultrasound is also performed.
■ You will be given mild sedative or over the counter medication to minimize any potential discomfort.
■ Oral is given antibiotic prior to and after the procedure.
■ You should inform your physician of any medications being taken and if there are any allergies, especially to iodinated contrast material.
■ Also inform your doctor about any recent illness or other medical conditions.
■ You may wear a gown during the examination. You may also be asked to remove jewelry, removable dental appliances, spectacles and any metal objects or clothing that might interfere with X-ray imaging.

Prostate Biopsy
Preparation:
■ Stop taking medications that can increase the risk of bleeding, such as warfarin, Non-steroidal anti-inflame matory medications (NSAIDs), such as aspirin and ibuprofen for 4-5 days before the procedure.
■ Light diet for two days before biopsy to avoid constipation.
■ Eat and drink normally the day of the procedure. You do not need to fast.
■ Take antibiotics 12 to 24 hours before your prostate biopsy to help prevent infection.
■ Do a cleansing enema 2-4 hours before your biopsy appointment.
■ This will prevent the biopsy area from infection due to contamination with faeces.
■ After a prostate biopsy, you’ll probably need to take an antibiotic for 3-5 days.
■ You may feel slight soreness and have some light bleeding from your rectum.
■ You may have blood in your urine or stools for a few days.
■ You may also notice that your semen has a red or rust-colored tint caused by a small amount of blood in your semen.
■ This can last for few days.
Call your doctor if you have:
■ Prolonged or heavy bleeding
■ Pain that gets worse
■ Swelling near the biopsy area
■ Difficulty in urination.
